The region's greatest art treasure, the famous "Wildungen Altar", a unique piece by the Westphalian panel painters was completed by Master Conrad-von-Soest in 1403.

Stadtmuseum (Town Museum)

"From the hand-axe to the kidney-shaped table". The town museum in Bad Wildungen displays the stages of development made by early man in the region, starting from the pre-history of the Wildungen area (notable ice age finds, stone-age tools) up to the middle of the 19th century, i.e. until the beginning of the formative phase as a spa resort.

The "Kurschattenbrunnen" is the place where the old town meets the spa quarters, a place in which to linger and for communication.

A group of people, based on ancient sculptures, forms the focal point of this impressively-designed piece of artwork, which vividly portrays the history of the bathing culture and spa treatments from antiquity to the present day.

The original name of the creation is attributed to a "marginal figure", a shapely lady with a metal shadow inlaid in the pavement, who is turning away from a gentleman in the bath with a meaningful gesture.

Friedrichstein Castle - Altwildungen

The old castle was built on the 300 m-high mountain peak around 1200. The present baroque structure was built between 1704 and 1717.

The castle is now owned by the state of Hesse and houses a much-visited hunting and military museum of the Museumslandschaft Hessen-Kassel (mhk (Museum Landscape of Hesse-Kassel)) amongst other things. The showpiece of the exhibition is the unique "Turkish Booty".
The richly-decorated baroque ballroom belongs to the restaurant-café.
Often, it also serves as a glamorous venue for high-class concert events; in the castle courtyard well-known open-air events (i.e. "Folk at the Castle" Festival) regularly take place.

The terrace is a popular lookout point with fantastic views across the old town, the spa quarters and the Kellerwald.

Brauhaus Bad Wildungen (Brewery)

Beer culture and brewing seminars - brewery market - rustic catering - guided brewery tours The Brauhaus Bad Wildungen is situated at the centre of the forest on the westward edge of the spa quarters.
One of the smallest micro-breweries in Germany was built here in 1991, managed using a new concept with a great deal of attention to detail. Beer is still brewed according to the old art of brewing (1516 purity law) with beers that are light and dark as well as a Hefebier (yeast beer). Our beers are unfiltered, therefore natural and as well as having a great taste are also healthy too. Particularly the Hefebier which is brewed with 10 % mineral spring water obtained from the local spring.

Besides the dining rooms which are furnished in a rustic-style, there is also a pleasant beer garden. Guided tours of the brewery, the popular brewers market and excellent beer seminars are also offered to interested individuals and groups.

Hesse's Most Beautiful Garden

Green network - relaxing oasis for visitors and townspeople

As part of Hesse's State Garden Show 2006, a unique green network arose from the pre-existing, well-maintained parkland and the newly-created show gardens to become "Hessen's Most Beautiful Garden" which visitors find so fascinating today.

Many of the attractive facilities still remain for the townspeople and visitors even though the garden show has since ended.

The paths here are barrier-free throughout and historic parks charmingly alternate with modern garden and landscape architecture.

Spa Garden Complex

The legendary spa garden complex of Bad Wildungen and the sister spa town of Reinhardshausen have elegantly grown together in harmony with nature to form Europe's largest spa gardens and "Hessen's Most Beautiful Garden".

Bergfreiheit - "Snow White Village"

Following along the trail of Snow White from Grimm's famous fairytale will bring you to the idyllic district of Bergfreiheit.
It is said that the erstwhile princess was pursued by her step-mother and found refuge with the dwarves (most likely prematurely senile adolescents, caused by heavy child labour in the mines, lack of sunlight and poor diet) in the village lying at the middle of the Kellerwald.

Researchers claim that while travelling through North Hesse the famous authors, Jacob and Emil Grimm, discovered the mysterious fate of the Waldeck Count's daughter Margaretha in Bad Wildungen. It is said that this story serves as a historical guideline for the fairytale of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.
