Jesberg
The borough of Jesberg with its urban districts of Jesberg, Densberg, Elnrode/Strang, Hundshausen and Reptich has a population of 2,601 and lies in the Gilsa river valley, a tributary of the Schwalm, at the south-east corner of the Nature Park Kellerwald-Edersee. Jesberg has a camp site with leisure facilities and a central shopping location.
The Kellerwald within the borders of Jesberg borough offers you valleys and mountains with heights up to 675 m. Sweeping views across the country can be found at a height of 700 m at the top of the Kellerwald tower in the Wüstegarten, the highest peak in the Schwalm-Eder-Kreis. The symbol of Jesberg is the castle built by the Linsing Knights in 1241. Along with Fritzlar and Naumburg, the castle was the main base for the Mainz archbishops in the campaign against the Hessians. Prince Maximilian, the son of the Landgrave Charles of Hesse, built the castle in the Treisbachgrund at the foot of the Kellerwald. The Schlossberg with its festival ground and newly-constructed bandstand has evolved into a charming attraction.
The beauty of the landscape, the magnificent climate and forests and meadows abundant with game, had such great appeal that he lived in Jesberg for thirty years with his splendour-loving and extravagant wife. Shortly before his death, the "youngest and most beautiful" of his daughters married Prince Henry of Prussia, a brother of Frederick the Great.
Jesberg lies on the B3 trunk road and can be reached via the A49 motorway, otherwise there is a rail connection via Neuental-Zimmersrode or Schwalmstadt-Treysa.
