The historic town hall has been standing in this spot since 1611 and can look back on a long and varied history. Purchased from the city of Borken in 1777, the half-timbered building has served as a town hall with ballroom and Ratskeller (restaurant in the cellar of the town hall). The Stadtsparkasse (city savings bank) also had its first domicile in the rooms on the market square. In 1920 the building passed into private hands and served as a private house, a butchers and restaurant from that time on until the city finally bought it back and renovated it in the year 1993.
